View Full Version : Power Window Motor Replacement with Window Fully Down

On my 02 ss...Pass side window lift motor failed with the window in the down position?!
This was an aftermarket motor that i installed maybe a year ago :MFER:

Every procedure I read described the motor replacement with the window up..

Seems like there is less clearance to get the motor out, but aside from that, it shouldnt matter, should it?

Has anybody done this?
thanks
Scott

get in there, unbolt the window from the regulator and just slide it up and when its all the way up put a shim inbetween the glass and weather stripping to hold it up

Ditto :stupid:

Once you unbolt the motor the glass will move freely.

Also, where did you buy your window motor from?
I'd suggest picking one up from Autozone...free lifetime replacement!
Do the express down while you're in there as well

frequently you can go back to the car and raise the window up slightly or all the way before it quit's.. then again it might just have shit totally

yeah pretty much what they said/ Usually i was able to opent he car door and the motor would push a little and i would pull at the same time and the window would go all the way up. but once you unbolt the motor the window will move freely.

I hope you got the autozone lifetime replacement......

By any chance did you check for a blown fuse or a bad switch, they usually don't crap out all at once, usually if you wait you can raise it little by little in increments.

Hey Guys - thanks for the input..
I checked the switches, fuse, took a ohm meter to the motor connector, and then just connected up a replacement motor, hit the switch and the repl motor spun up..

I bought two of these from a local parts store a while ago..second on was intended for the drivers side..never did it.

The one I did install failed hard..It was working ok, went to raise it..nothing..let it cool, nothing..yeah, illusional...a total sh**

Ohh, express down done a looong time ago...I thought that the control module went south..great mod.

What is the benefit of raising the glass once the motor is out?
Does it help with lining up the new motor, or just gives you more room to work with?

Thanks again...

Hey Scott

Do you remember when I replaced the passenger side motor in my car a while back??? Well anyway it was a autozone motor, well they are not all they are crack up to be. I am not sure which one you got, but this one is slow as shit, and I think its on the way out. I know what I just wrote did not answer your question, but my point is, I wouldnt go crazy finding a autozone motor....

and btw I bought 2 and never did my drivers side, I have it in my basement collecting dust...

I like the lifetime warranty because its lifetime :) As far as I have read on ls1tech, they said it was a pretty decent motor and after doing it for the first time, I think you could do it in half the time if not easier because the holes are already drilled. Just need to unbolt, return and slap in the new one. I could deal with replacing it once a year if I had too but once a month, maybe not ::D:

that is true..it is easier after the first time..and it is not a bad job overall ..just not a big fan of taking the door apart so often..

Group Purchase on these things in order??

As well as the butchering you have to do by drilling through the panel...I love how GM designed that :rolleyez:

I put my autozone in over the summer, no problems here. Runs fine for me, just as good as the other one.
