I received my equipment today. A brand new ASNU (as-new) model fuel injector benchflow. The first person available as my test subject was my dad's friend.

2000 Dodge Caravan 3.0L with 95k miles

We did before and after tests and below are the results. I heard the car run before the cleaning and it was decent. Slight shake on the steering wheel from the engine running but nothing that would alert you of any problems. Your average 8 year old vehicle.

Coils are tested to see if the resistance is good

As soon as we do the leak test, you can see the #4 injector is leaking when in a closed position.

Spray patterns of injectors #3-6 are all bad, Injectors #1-2 have good spray patterns

Flow testing was performed at 3 bars (43.5psi)

There is a 17% difference in flow rate amongst the dirty injectors and can be easily seen in this picture

Injectors undergoing ultrasonic cleaning

You can see the dirt coming out of the injector from the cleaning

Injector #4 still has a fair spray pattern but it's greatly improved and does not leak anymore. Normally that injector would not be used anymore and replaced with another core. The rest of the injectors show a great improvement in flow atomization

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v738/xvnutjobvx/DSC00794.jpg

Final results show that injectors are now flowing 2% of each other!

Injectors were installed back on the car and you can instantly see the smoothness of the idle was more like a newer vehicle. I'll report back in a couple days once he drives it a while to see how fuel economy was effected. There were no real tests on fuel economy done prior so it will be vague.

I didn't put all steps, but there was a backflush to remove all debris, and we put all new o-rings, caps, and filters in the injectors.

There is definitely going to be an increase in fuel economy. If you know how an engine works, you know that the more uniform it runs, the more efficient the power it puts out is. Balancing your fuel flow and improving your atomization so all the fuel gets burned.

If you don't know how atomization works, take a bottle of hair spray and spray a spot on concrete and light it... you'll see a gentle flame... now spray it out of the can with a lighter = blow torch!

The same happens when your fuel is going into the intake in drops not tiny droplets.

$10 per injector. This is only for Fastlsx members by the way.

My normal price will be $12-15 per injector depending one what injector it is.

Thanks man.. it's pretty fun especially comparing the results and being able to see a clear difference.

My index finger is swollen from the fuel rail knobs. Been using the machine for a couple hours lol. Have to redesign the distribution block because it's the most time consuming part of the process and the screws on the block are why my fingers hurt.

Very cool. What's your education background on this?

I sold injectors for 2 years now and learned a lot. If I already don't know it by heart, I have my references and other friends in the business I can refer to. I sold thousands of injectors but the machinery was wasn't mine and I didn't do the work on a regular basis, I handled the sales.

No I know, I figured it'd be good to know, because no one really knew about my previous work with injectors.

As for the injectors themselves, it's just like any other job, you learn the most through experience. It's funny because even though you receive a manual with the machine, it doesn't really show any true detail on what to do, nor does it give you tips or tricks that most rebuilders know. If I didn't do this before, I would have had a problem with just the manual. Guess people don't like to share what they know because they think they'll have a business edge if they keep it to themselves.

I remember your purchase. You bought them while I was in Florida. When your car for sale, I posted in that thread hinting that you purchased them from me.

The Design 3 injectors you got are definitely the best injectors for the 305 TPI. Did you have a problem with them being 1.4mm shorter o-ring to o-ring? Some people are scared during installation but I just re-assure them they will fit with no problems. I have heard some people trim the fuel rail posts a bit too. I got a couple TPI systems but I never actually thought of bolting the fuel rail onto the intake to test the fitment. I'll probably do a writeup on that next now that I think of it.

to be honest i did have a bit of a problem but only with one injector and woulnt you know it ti was number 8 haha. it was leaking from the top because the fuel pressure was pushing the injector down to far into the intake. i fixed this buy ziptieing the injector up to the rail...worked great actually...if i had to do it again i would buy some washers that just fit over the end of the injector and let the injectors sit on those...it would work out perfect

what is the turn around time? Can they be dropped off?

96WhiteZ28
08-27-2008, 12:43 PM
Same day is even possible. You can drop them off with me in Ridgewood, NY 11385. If you're out on the island, you can put them in a priority mail flat rate envelope and it will cost you $4.75 to get to Queens rather than paying for gas and the traffic headache. If you can't be without your car, PM me what vehicle they're for and chances are I have or can at least get a set of injectors done for you and then you can return your set when you install the new ones with just a refundable core deposit.
