Screw it-Think I will still build motor

With the local track closing I put my motor on hold.I was going back to stock and selling my mods and the car to buy a nice Indian motorcyle.

I just cant do it[sell my car],my son[John],Mike M,Jay[AbsoluteSpeed]and[others] put too much blood,sweat[curses] and almost tears into her.

I have my Diamond pistons,rings and a double roller chain.I will buy an LS6 block and crank so I can save my stock short block.

Time to kick out the jams and get building.Motor will have the G5X2 cam and secret Absolute Speed heads[secret because we dont know if they will be 5.3s ,LS6 or 6.0s].I want to pick up 3 or 4 tenths NA and then hit it with a 150 shot,its 9s or bust.

I actually was considering it for a very short time (Pete was pushing me to ;)) but then I realized that I just can't have two Camaros so I bought a cheaper (and SLOWER!) Mustang convertible instead. I too wasn't pleased to hear that you were considering selling it John so I'm also VERY happy to hear that you aren't. :cool:

Thanks to all for the incouragement.I will have the new motor done before the good fall weather starts.

I always wanted to build a forged internal motor to see how fast I could get it to go NA then move on to the addictive N2O.

I have the Moser 12 bolt in my garage and the Speed Inc Stage 3 trans will be here next week.The only thing left in the suspension department would be an aftermarket torque arm.

I will keep a tally of my costs for anyone interested.I have spent $1100 for pistons,rings,rods and a double roller chain.I need to get the LS6 block and a crank,$900,I guess.I will have Jay at Absolute Speed get the machine work and internals assembled by Jack,Scott Merkel.Jay will then finish the motor up.I hope to come in at a budget price of $3,000[motor only],make 425 hp and run 10.8s.This will be fun.

Don't you already make ~420 with your current setup, or am I wrong? With some newer heads, perhaps some higher compression, and that monster G5 cam, shouldn't that take you north of 440?!?!? Plus a 12 bolt that'll let you launch even harder!!

I gotta know, the hell did your stock rear hold up to all those passes this long??

john always shoots low so this way he will always be happy with his results.

I think he should never ever get rid of the magical stock tranny, that tranny has about 400 passes on it. 24 in one day. the rear has been freshened up once or twice.
