Default Carb' guys come in here

My Holley 750 double pumper carb' MAY need to be replaced due to a broken part. It may still be useable but it will not be determined until the job is closer to being finished.

I am looking for a little input and/or insight as to which carb I should go with if and when I need a new one.

The setup is as followed:

406ci
2.10 Heads
Pretty big cam
Victor Junior High Rise Intake
Long tube headers
Full length 2.5 inch exhaust
blah blah blah

I dont know if I should step up to an 850 cfm or should I stay around the 750 cfm mark? I am not a carb guy (nor am I a mechanic for that measure).I have a good guy working on the car now and I am sure he will give me his input when the time comes, but I am trying to get some information now so if he asks me which carb I would like to go with, I dont delay his work by THEN doing research.

I have used Holley's in the past on my first gen camaro and this car. I have used Edelbrock also.

I have seen some nice LOOKING carburators, but that is all I know about them. Just the looks and what I have read in the hot rodder's ads on the side of the pages. So, not much information I have about them.

If you might know something about this area, please chime in. I actually seen a nice looking Holley in the new Hot Rodders magazine which came with a nice looking spacer which is cosmetically colored. You can either get blue, black, or red. I know that shouldnt be a factor in the decision, but it did look good for cosmetic reasoning. If I could, I would like to get something that stands out from the rest of the dull looking carb's out there. The motor is a good looking motor, and I dont really want to buy a carb now and then want to change it or have it removed to put a different spacer for coloring reasons when the car gets closer to completion. So, in your advice, please if you could try to remember this factor, I would be greatful.

Now, having said all that. If you are someone like myself who knows very little on this subject but you HEARD your father say he "used a holley, or edelbrock back in the days" or read an ad a magazine, but you want to sound like you know what you are talking about so you just throw out a name and say "this is a good choice" blah blah blah, I would appreciate it if you just sit back and listen to the discussion in the thread and not chime in with Advice. If you want to ask questions in this thread, than albeit it, ask away. But please. This thread might influence my decision and these things arent cheap so I rather not go buy one on someone's uneducated advice.
Not trying to sound like a dick. But I have spent too much money in the past on false advice or listening to people that really did not have much technical experience.

After having said that, any advice on Carb's?

Also, what do you think is the average price I should be paying for a carb? And where do you think is the best place to get one?

The goals for the car is purely a cruiser but I dont mind snarl. I dont mind a hiccuping beast as long as she stays started at a red light and not have to power brake the car to keep it from stalling. I would like to extract the most horsepower out of this setup as humanely possible so playing caution on the side of what size to use (carb) shouldnt be used.
But I also dont want to use a 1050 cfm carb just cause it "sounds cool" to be running it.

Thanks guys.

Again, I might NOT need one. We shall see
