Default For the Weather Weenies..

I took a few snapshots of one of our in house doppler outputs from Saturday's Blizzard showing returns for LI.. you'll never in your lifetime see another storm like this:

This was at 1am: Notice how close it really was

This was at 6am: Areas in orange/red were areas where 14+" could fall, areas in light green are where a dusting/coating could fall

If it had tracked 10 miles north the forecasting models (including every Meteorologist in the Tri-State) would have verified, insane.

For the Weds storm:

This is an image from 1 of our forecasting models (we use 7 models and each model has 12 different types of images for ~6-200 hours out). This shows "QPF" or liquid potential. In other words take all the snow/precip and melt it to water:

This puts us in the .75-1.00" range. During the storm the snow ratio will change from 10:1 to 12:1 by late in the day, so it puts Nassau/Suffolk in the safe range of 6-12+" by Weds night.

What's nicer about this storm is how wide the field of QPF is...compared to the last one

If it verified, yea that's about 3-4' of snow! But, this model's consistency is best for mid latitudes and extra-tropical systems.
